I’ve found myself using one word quite a bit: retrofit. While it may be a term used a lot in the industry, most people don’t actually know what it means.
Putting it simply, it means doing “stuff” to your home. This is typically something you do to improve your home. It could be as simple as fitting some draft-proofing strips around your front door or as extreme as having external wall insulation fitted and an energy-efficient heating system!
The thing that puts people off most is being worried about the level of disruption that may be involved… and the cost. There are government grants available for which some people are eligible; eligibility is always dependent on your own circumstances. Criteria include the existing energy efficiency of your home, and some are also dependent on your household income. They keep changing, so it’s always worth checking periodically to see if any new grants are available.
I’ll be exploring various ways to improve your home efficiency over the coming months, so keep checking back to see what’s new.
